As part of Destiny 2’s not-great timegating for its Into the Light event, two new weapons launch today. Well, new old weapons, but that’s how things work most of the time in Destiny, and with this event specifically. Mountaintop and Midnight Coup are returning, two of the most classic weapons in Destiny history.
The Mountaintop was so good in both PvP and PvE that it was probably a third of the reason weapon sunsetting existed in the first place (Recluse, Revoker being the other two reasons). Midnight Coup was from an era before random rolls even existed, the original Outlaw Rampage hand canon everyone loved. Now, it has a lot more rolls.
You will need to complete mini-quests to be able to “attune” each of these for more drops. I would suggest a wave frame grenade launcher for the Mountaintop quest and Sunshot or Thorn for the Midnight Coup quest, but that’s just me. So, the god rolls:
Midnight Coup (Kinetic Hand Canon)
- Outlaw/Rampage or Desperate Measures – Look, it’s boring, I get it, but you don’t want the iconic roll on the new version? The other option is to sub Rampage for the brand new BRAVE perk, Desperate Measures, which gives stacking damage buffs on gun, melee or grenade kills.
- Firefly/Kinetic Tremors – Hung Jury can also roll with this now, and the combination allows for faster pricing of Kinetic Tremors with the explosion, which is a cool effect.
- Firefly/One for All – Firefly triggers OFA, so if you want a constant damage perk with a lot of uptime, there you go.
- Moving Target/Zen Moment or Opening Shot – I doubt Midnight Coup is going to be PvP meta anytime soon, but you can grab this version if you want.
- Explosive Rounds/Kinetic Tremors – Since Explosive Rounds hits twice, this also results in faster Kinetic Tremors activation.
The Mountaintop (Kinetic Grenade Launcher)
- Autoloading Holster/Vorpal – Flip it out, shoot that missile and then put it back. Easy peasy.
- Overflow/Vorpal – If you’d rather have more than one shot in the magazine, this is what you can go for instead.
- Impulse Amplifier/Frenzy – Perhaps not the best combo here but I’d really like to try this out with fast projectile speed and faster reload.
- Autoloading Holster/Recombination – This seems like a great combination with Autoloading after you’ve racked up kills on other weapons for one big shot. Likely a lot better than Vorpal. It’s only the first shot so I don’t think it works as well with Overflow.
Those are my picks, let me know what I might be overlooking.
