Carmelo Anthony to make a stop at opening of renovated Central NY ice cream and food drive-in

Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse basketball icon Carmelo Anthony is expected to visit a Central New York ice cream and food landmark when it reopens Friday in Skaneateles.

Anthony and former Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim are set to appear at the recently renovated Skan Ellus Drive In at noon Friday, according to Vinny Lobdell, one of the owners.

Lobdell and his partners, Todd Ruetsch and David Stewart, put about $500,000 into the renovations, which include a new deck, playground and dog park.

The ice cream stand and restaurant, located at the corner of Route 20 and Route 175 (Lee-Mulroy Road), will remain open for the season through December.

Anthony is among the most iconic sports figures in Syracuse University history. He led the Orange to the NCAA championship in 2003 as a freshman, delivering Boeheim his first national title.

Anthony left Syracuse after one season and became the No. 3 pick in the NBA draft. He spent 19 seasons in the NBA, including stints with the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Anthony ranks ninth on the league’s all-time scoring list with 28,289 points. He also won three gold medals in the Olympics while playing on a record four USA Basketball teams, and is widely expected to be inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame.
