Kristen Stewart Says Joining the MCU ‘Sounds Like a F*cking Nightmare’

If you were hoping to see Kristen Stewart suit up for a movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ve got some bad news. The Love Lies Bleeding actress recently opened up about her thoughts on superhero cinema, telling the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast that viewers will probably never see her in a Marvel flick.

“I will likely never do a Marvel movie,” Stewart said. She paused, then added, “That sounds like a fucking nightmare, actually.”

The Twilight star clarifies that she likes “big movies” but isn’t excited about how her attachment to something as massive as an MCU movie might leave her feeling.

“The system would have to change,” she added. “You’d have to put so much money and so much trust into one person and it doesn’t happen, and so, therefore, what ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it.”

Stewart elaborated by saying that while she would likely not join up with a superhero team, she can’t definitively write off that world forever. The right circumstances and the right team, for example, could see her reconsider. There is a chance, but for now, don’t expect to see Stewart appear next to the Marvel Studios logo.

All of that said, she does tease that there is one name that could get her in front of the camera.

“If Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it,” she adds with a laugh.

Gerwig, who most recently directed last year’s mega-hit, Barbie, told Rolling Stone last year that she is interested in directing a superhero film, but it could be years before something like that actually happened. She’s currently wrapped up in working on a pair of The Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix, and there’s even a potential Barbie sequel on her mind.

Stewart’s new film, Love Lies Bleeding, sees the actress co-star alongside Katy O’Brian in a story packed with violence and passion. We gave it an 8/10 in our review, saying, “Kristen Stewart and Rose Glass go full sicko mode in this ’80s-set crime thriller, whose violence and sexuality are both potent and delirious.”
