Jerry Seinfeld jokes Hugh Grant was horrible while filming ‘Unfrosted’

Jerry Seinfeld didn’t exactly have a grrrrrr-eat time starring alongside Hugh Grant in their upcoming film, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story

The comedian, who also co-wrote and directed the project, revealed on Wednesday’s episode of The Tonight Show that he found Grant — who plays Thurl Ravenscroft, the voice of Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger — very difficult to work with on set.

“We had lots of fights. He’s a pain in the ass to work with. He’s horrible,” Seinfeld recalled. “He tells you before you work with him, ‘You’re gonna hate this.’ And he’s so right.”

However, any feud that may have developed between the pair on set was immediately quashed after they went out for a meal together. “We shot for 10 weeks, and that night that he and I had dinner — and we got drunk having dinner — that was the greatest night,” Seinfeld said. “Because he’s so cool and he’s that English thing, you know, that witty. He looks good in a jacket … he’s one of those guys. I love those guys.”

Earlier in his conversation with host Jimmy Fallon, Seinfeld revealed that he didn’t initially think of Grant for the role of Ravenscroft, whom he had reimagined for the film as “a frustrated Shakespearean actor who has to play this embarrassing character to make his car payments.”

Then, suddenly, the phone rang. “[Grant] called us and he said, ‘I want to be in the Pop-Tart movie,’” Seinfeld remembered. “So he did an audition on his phone — with a glass of wine in the other hand, by the way.”

Regardless of how the audition went, Seinfeld was ready to cast him. “Like I care what the audition was,” he teased. “I go, ‘Yeah, sure, you’re Tony the Tiger, sure.’”

Seinfeld later revealed that Grant ended up enjoying the film too by revealing a recent text that the Notting Hill actor had sent him. “Just watched the film. To my great surprise I liked it. Laughed out loud,” it read. “All actors were good. Even you. Love, Hugh.”
