All the Food Coming to Saturday’s Spam Jam

Hawai‘i’s biggest celebration of its favorite canned meat product returns to its street festival format this Saturday, April 29. Up and down Kalākaua Avenue, 16 restaurants will be joined by other vendors and live entertainment on three stages from 4 to 10 p.m.

But let’s face it—whether we nibble or feast, it’s the Spam creations that draw us to this uniquely Hawai‘i event. This year’s menus start with Spammy breakfast items, naturally, and run the gamut from Spam-laced nachos and sandwiches to pizza, tacos, pancit, dim sum and plenty of Spam desserts.

Two things to note: Spam Jam is a fundraiser for the Hawai‘i Food Bank, so bring canned goods or donations to drop off at its two tents. The event also donates to the Waikīkī Community Center and the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai‘i. In short, you can walk Waikīkī, eat Spam, do good. And second, Saturday’s Spam Jam is only Part 1 of the canned meat celebration. Part 2 happens April 30 to May 14, when 21 restaurants continue the homage by offering special Spam dishes on their menus.
