BOWLING GREEN Ky. – The Bypass has undergone lane changes in the last couple of weeks. Now the lane changes are over, and the traffic pattern has begun to operate in its intended way.

Though a lane was eliminated, much of the “congestion” people are seeing is just the same number of cars being placed into a single lane with longer timing on the lights being green. Though at first this makes little sense, the time sitting still, even in a long line of cars is technically shorter even at peak times. Considering that now two lanes or two turn lanes can function at the same time, this will even out over time.

“It was a major change to the Bypass. And that section, it’s going to take people a little while to get used to it. That’s completely normal. Anything that’s different or major changes always have an adjustment period for motorists, and this is going to be no different,” Wes Watt, public information officer for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 3, said.
