Detroit Lions will unveil new uniforms at event for season-ticket holders in 3 weeks

The Detroit Lions sent an exclusive invite to season-ticket holders Thursday morning, offering them an opportunity to attend an official unveiling of the team’s redesigned uniforms. The evening event will be held at Ford Field in three weeks, on April 18.

With the invite, season-ticket holders can purchase two tickets for $10 each. That $10 is then credited toward food and beverage at the event, which will include a Q&A with members of the team’s front office prior to the unveil. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase new jerseys after they’re revealed.

Registration to attend the event at Ford Field will be open until April 12.

It will mark the first update to the team’s look in six years, when the Lions launched their current uniform combinations, including their all-gray “Color Rush” alternatives. The team did introduce a blue alternate helmet last year, which will pair with an updated alternate uniform to be revealed next month.

At the league meetings earlier this week, Lions president Rod Wood acknowledged the new uniforms were coming prior to the NFL Draft, which will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.

“I think everybody will be excited about it,” Wood said. “I’m not going to tease it too much, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out. It was a multi-year process that (chief communications and brand officer) Brian (Facchini) and (chief operating officer) Mike Disner really led. (They) worked with Nike and the league, and I think the fans are going to be really excited about it.”

Emily Griffin, the team’s senior vice president of marketing and brand, was also heavily involved in the process.

Several of the team’s top players have already seen the uniforms, taking part in a two-day multimedia shoot that will supplement the public unveiling. The team took precautions to prevent leaks from that shoot by locking up the smart devices of those in attendance.

Wood offered minimal details about what to expect, but based on those limited comments, fans shouldn’t anticipate a drastic overhaul.

“They’re honoring our traditional color with a little updating and twist,” Wood said. “And it gives us a lot more options, too. We’re going to introduce a couple different pant options that can go with jerseys, so it will give us different options to wear during the season.”
