Mark Canha traded to the Brewers (source)

The Brewers have reached a deal with the Mets to acquire outfielder Mark Canha and cash considerations in exchange for right-hander Justin Jarvis (Milwaukee’s No. 30 prospect), a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The teams have not confirmed the trade.

The 34-year-old Canha has six homers with a .725 OPS for New York this year, and he’s a career .248/.348/.422 hitter with 108 homers, 39 steals and 146 doubles in nine Major League seasons. Canha is owed the remainder of his $11.5 million salary in 2023, plus a $2 million buyout of his 2024 club option. The Mets are paying down all but the MLB minimum the trade, per Feinsand.

Jarvis was set to make a big jump on MLB Pipeline’s midseason re-rank of the Brewers’ Top 30 Prospects. Importantly for the Mets, he’s close to the Majors with a few Triple-A starts on his resume. The former fifth-rounder boasts a 92-94 mph fastball and gets whiffs with a low-80s splitter. He should help address the organization’s lack of upper-level arms.
