Donald Trump vows tariffs on China, Mexico, Canada over border

President-elect Donald Trump said he would impose additional 10% tariffs on goods from China and 25% tariffs on all products from Mexico and Canada, citing the levies as necessary to clamp down on migrants and illegal drugs flowing across US borders.

In posts to his Truth Social network that jolted financial markets on Monday, Trump claimed China had failed to follow through on promises to institute the death penalty for traffickers of fentanyl, writing that “drugs are pouring into our Country, mostly through Mexico, at levels never seen before.”

India may raise insurance FDI cap to 100%, allow composite licenses 

India is planning to increase the foreign direct investment (FDI) cap in the insurance sector from 74% to 100%, sources have told CNBC-TV18. The proposal is part of a broader set of reforms aimed at attracting global investors and modernising the insurance industry.

The amendments may also introduce composite licenses for insurers, enabling companies to operate across life, general, and health insurance segments under a single license, sources said.

Adani Group overtaken by Bajaj, ICICI after ₹3 lakh crore market cap erosion in four sessions 

With Adani Group stocks extending their fall after the US prosecutors’ charges of bribery against executives of the conglomerate, the group has seen its valuation come off by nearly ₹3 lakh crore in just four sessions through Tuesday. 

The sudden drop in valuation has also pulled down the conglomerate’s rank in market capitalisation by two notches to six. Prior to the recent selloff, the ports-to-power behemoth ranked fourth after Tata Group, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Group and HDFC Group.

Israel poised to approve ceasefire with Hezbollah, Israeli official says

Israel looks set to approve a US plan for a ceasefire with the Iran-backed Hezbollah on Tuesday, a senior Israeli official said, clearing the way for an end to the war which has killed thousands of people since it was ignited by the Gaza conflict 14 months ago.

Israel’s security cabinet is expected to convene later on Tuesday to discuss and likely approve the text at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the official said.

Vodafone Idea shares end 9% higher, issues clarification on bank guarantees

Shares of Vodafone Idea Ltd. surged as much as 15%, the most since January 1, during Tuesday’s trading session. Trading volumes were 252% higher than the 20-day average.

The telco has issued a clarification with regards to reports of bank guarantees from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Vodafone Idea said that it is yet to receive any communication from the DoT or the government about any decision taken in this matter.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal extends waiver of ₹3.5 crore salary until end of FY26

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has voluntarily extended his salary waiver of ₹3.5 crore until the end of the financial year 2026 (FY26). Originally, Goyal had announced in FY21 that he would forgo his salary for 36 months, lasting until FY24, the company’s qualified institutional placement (QIP) documents showed.

Imran Khan supporters breach lockdown in Islamabad, six officials killed, over 100 injured

Supporters seeking the release of imprisoned Pakistani former premier Imran Khan on Tuesday broke through a ring of shipping containers locking down the capital Islamabad. Four paramilitary personnel and two policemen have been killed and over 100 security personnel injured prompting the federal government to deploy the army in the national capital along with shoot at sight orders on Tuesday, state-run media said.
