At 392, air quality in Delhi on brink of ‘severe’ category again
A layer of smog continued to engulf areas across the national capital on Tuesday, November 26, with the air quality in the ‘very poor’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s overall air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 392 at 9 am.

Multiple areas in Delhi, including Anand Vihar (440), Ashok Vihar (415), Bawana (420), Jahangirpuri (416), Mandir Marg (413), Mundka (426), Narela (411), Nehru Nagar (415), Patparganj (405), Punjabi Bagh (406), Rohini (426), Shadipur (416), Sonia Vihar (421) and Vivek Vihar (423), recorded the AQI in the ‘severe’ category.

The AQI is considered good between 0 and 50, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and 401-500 is severe.

On Monday, the Delhi Airport issued an advisory urging all passengers to contact the airline concerned for any updates regarding flights.

“Low visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” read the passenger advisory over fog update.

Meanwhile, the central government’s air quality panel has asked schools and colleges in Delhi-NCR to shift classes up to the 12th standard to a ‘hybrid’ mode. This came after the Supreme Court called for a review of the restrictions on physical classes due to air pollution in the city.

On Monday, the wind speeds remained below six kmph throughout the day, leading to stagnation and build-up of the city’s pollutants.

The air quality in the national capital fluctuated between the ‘severe’ and ‘very poor’ categories last week, witnessing a high of 495 on November 18.
