Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah is hosting the IPL 2025 mega auction. The auction is spread across two days.
The 38-year-old went into the auction pool after Delhi Capitals decided to not retain him ahead of the auction. Warner struggled with injuries during IPL 2024 and could play only eight matches in which he scored 168 runs. With Warner injured, DC signed Warner’s compatriot Jake Fraser – McGurk.
22 year-old Fraser – McGurk was an instant hit at DC as he hammered 330 runs in nine appearances at a strike rate of 234.04 including four half-centuries during the season.
DC used their Right-to-Match card during the auction and got Fraser – McGurk back in their fold for Rs 9 crore.
Warner is one of the legends of the IPL. With 6565 runs, Warner is the highest-scoring overseas player in the league. The left-handed opener also has hit four centuries in the league. He has won the coveted orange cap three times – in 2015, 2017 and 2019 – a record. Warner has scored over 500 runs in seven IPL seasons, which is also a record. In 2016 he guided Surnrisers Hyderabad to their maiden IPL title.
Despite going unsold, Warner will get a second shot to attract bids if the teams submit his name on the second day for the auction.
