Tripura to host 11-day Tourism Fest as state eyes 50% rise in footfalls
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha will inaugurate the first Tripura Tourism Promo Fest-2024 on December 3 in Gomati district, a senior minister said on November 23. The festival, which marks the inaugural tourism promotion event in the state, aims to boost tourism by 39-50% in Tripura. The event will take place across four prominent destinations and run until December 14.

“Chief Minister Manik Saha will inaugurate the Tripura Tourism Promo Fest-2024 on December 3 at Narikel Kunja in Gomati district,” state Tourism Minister Sushant Chowdhury informed reporters.

The festival will feature various attractions, including musical concerts with local bands, a traditional costume show highlighting the state’s tribal culture, and an indigenous food festival.

Special events are planned at Neermahal Water Palace in Sepahijala on December 9, with additional programs at Jampui Hill in North Tripura on December 11.

Chowdhury emphasised that the grand event will take place at Vivekananda Ground in Agartala from December 12 to 14. “Our main goal is to promote the state’s tourism, culture, and heritage both nationally and internationally. We aim to increase tourist footfall by 30-50%. We will also invite around 40 leading tourist operators from across the country to the festival,” he stated.

The tourism minister announced the lineup of events for the upcoming fest, which includes Bollywood’s iconic playback singer, Shreya Ghoshal, who will perform at one of the events, set to take place at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala on December 14. The festival will officially kick off on December 3, with the opening ceremony at Narikelkunj, at Dumbur Lake.

Organised by the Tripura Tourism Department in collaboration with the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited, the festival aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and natural beauty of Tripura, particularly showcasing the state’s 19 indigenous tribes to visitors from across the nation and beyond.

Prashanta Badal Negi, Director of the Tourism Department, shared that a programme will be held to discuss various aspects of Tripura’s tourism sector, with participation from tourist operators outside the state.

The festival will span multiple locations and dates. It will begin with an evening cultural program on December 1 at Rajghat, Neermahal, featuring renowned singer Niharika Nath and other prominent artists. The event will also feature local cuisine and a musical concert.

On December 3, the inaugural event at Narikelkunj will be attended by Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha, who will also inaugurate a newly constructed bridge and the homestays at Dumbur Lake.
