Maharashtra was painted in a vivid saffron hue on Saturday (November 23) as voters handed the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance a resounding victory over a faltering Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). (Image: PTI)
The assembly election results marked a celebratory moment for the BJP, which was on course to win 132 of the 149 seats it contested in the state. Combined with its allies, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), the Mahayuti alliance seemed poised to secure a commanding 226 out of 288 seats, leaving the Congress-Shiv Sena(UBT)-NCP(SP) coalition trailing far behind with a mere 50 seats. As of 3:30 pm, the BJP was leading in 130 seats, nearly hitting the halfway mark of 144 on its own, while Shiv Sena (Shinde) held leads in 54 constituencies and the NCP in 40. By contrast, the Congress led in just 19 seats, Shiv Sena(UBT) in 20, and NCP(SP) in 13. (Image: PTI)
Expressing his gratitude, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “I thank everybody for this victory. We have achieved this massive win because of the work done by Mahayuti. Very grateful.” His alliance partners credited the triumph to welfare initiatives like the Laadli Behna scheme, the PTI reported. (Image: PTI)
Shinde’s son, Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, emphasised that the mandate reflected who truly carried forward the ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray, taking a dig at the fractured legacy of the Shiv Sena founder. Uddhav Thackeray, Balasaheb’s son, leads the rival Shiv Sena(UBT). (Image: PTI)
In Nagpur, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis’s hometown, BJP workers celebrated their party’s strong lead by bursting crackers. Fadnavis himself had established a substantial lead of over 33,000 votes against Congress’s Prafulla Gudadhe in the Nagpur South West seat as of 3:30 pm. (Image: PTI)
In Mumbai, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) party workers celebrated the Mahayuti alliance’s success by waving flags and dancing, while party leaders distributed sweets to mark the occasion. (Image: PTI)
While the Mahayuti’s performance exceeded expectations set by exit polls, dissenting voices emerged from the opposition, the PTI reported. Shiv Sena(UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed the results were suspicious, alleging a “big conspiracy.” “This is not a mandate of Marathi ‘manoos’ and farmers. We do not accept this as the people’s mandate,” he declared. (Image: PTI)
