Close on his heels is independent candidate Sudhakar Parshuram Ghare, was a close second with 89,177 votes. In third place was Nitin Nandkumar Sawant of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), with 48,929 votes.
A Closely Watched Contest
Karjat, located in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, is witnessing a heated battle in the 2024 Vidhan Sabha elections. Mahendra Thorve, the incumbent MLA, won this seat in 2019 by defeating Sureshbhau Narayan Lad of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with a margin of 18,059 votes. Thorve had secured a commanding 51.04% vote share in the last election.
The constituency has a history of fluctuating political dominance. In 2014, Sureshbhau Narayan Lad of the NCP edged out Thorve, then a Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWPI) candidate, by just 1,900 votes. Before that, Lad held the seat in 2009 as well, defeating Shiv Sena’s Devendra Satam by a margin of 15,810 votes.
