In total, there are six candidates in the fray for the Mahim seat in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election. Here’s a complete list:

Candidate Names Party

The Mahim Assembly constituency will be one of the most-watched seats in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election. The seat, which has been won either by Shiv Sena or the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena since 1990, will be the turf for the electoral debut of yet another Thackrey. MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray was on the ballot for the first time against a potential ally, Sada Sarvankar from the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.

Amit’s father Raj Thackeray has never fought an election. Amit’s second cousin Aditya Thackrey, the son of Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, entered electoral politics with the Worli assembly seat in the 2019 elections. Uddhav Thackeray was elected to the legislative council in 2020 after he became Maharashtra chief minister.

Mahim is also one of the few seats where MNS may play a key role in the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024. MNS’s Nitin Sardesai won the seat in 2009.

However, Sada Sarvankar brought the seat back to Shiv Sena’s fold in 2014, registering a comprehensive win and has since kept it.

Sarvankar switched loyalties from Thackeray and backed Eknath Shinde’s rebellion in 2021 to join the Mahayuti camp. The incumbent has been fielded again by Shinde’s Shiv Sena from the Mahayuti camp, which also has Bharatiya Janata Party and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The Maha Vikas Aghadi of Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Shiv Sena UBT fielded Mahesh Baliram Sawant.

In the 2024 polls, the Mahayuti (BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP) is in a direct contest against the MVA, which includes Congress, NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT).
