Ranchi Assembly Election: As CP Singh dreams of a seventh term, can Mahua Maji end his streak?
The Ranchi Assembly seat, a long-time bastion of CP Singh, will see the senior leader up against Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji. Singh is eyeing a seventh term from the seat.

He is leading by 27,753 votes against Mahua Maji at 12.05 pm, , according to the Election Commission on India.

CP Singh first secured a win in Ranchi in 1996 by-poll and has since won all the elections from here. The saffron party has continued its dominance over the Ranchi seat since 1990.

To end CP Singh’s winning streak, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has fielded its Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji. The two of them have contested against each other in previous polls as well.

In 2019, CP Singh won the seat by a little less than 6,000 votes. He defeated her by more than 50,000 votes in 2014.

During the last Assembly polls in Jharkhand, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance emerged victorious. The JMM bagged 30 out of 81 seats, while Congress bagged 16 and one went to the RJD.

The BJP could only secure victory in 25 seats and the remaining went to Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (P), AJSU and CPI(ML) among others.
