McDonald’s World Record Highlights Day Five of World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland

Toruń, Poland — Team USATF added 15 medals to its growing total on day five of the ninth edition of the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships. The total count now stands at 78.

Sue McDonald (Santa Barbara, California), who turned 60 during the championship, ran a W60 world record time while competing in the W55 division of the women’s 800m. While her 2:25.72 was good for bronze in the W55 race, it bettered the existing W60 record by more than four seconds.

Earning her fifth medal of the meet, Gloria Krug (New Oxford, Pennsylvania) won the W90 triple jump with a 1.48m leap. Her furthest jump came in the fourth round.

Angela Herzner (Tempe, Arizona) added to her medal tally with a gold in the W45 hammer throw. All of Herzner’s legal throws made it out past forty meters, with all but one far enough to win the competition. Her furthest throw came in the second round at 44.61m.

David Scott Eriksson (Plano, Texas) nabbed gold in the M60 discus throw as he bested the field by a whopping four and a half meters. Three of his throws reached out past 55m, with his best landing at 56.17. Engelbert Stampfl of Austria was second with a 51.73m throw.

Capping off the day’s success was a final gold in the M60 pole vault. Dolf Berle (Dallas, Texas) equaled his season best clearance of 3.40m, winning the competition by the number of attempts at 3.25m over Italy’s Stefano Peli.
