In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Ameet Bhaskar Satam of BJP won in this seat defeating Ashok Bhau Jadhav of INC by a margin of 18,927 votes which was 14.20% of the total votes cast for the seat. BJP had a vote share of 49.23% in 2019 in this seat.
As counting of votes in the 2024 Maharashtra Election result is underway, it remains to be seen if Satam will be able to secure a hattrick.
Andheri West is a General category assembly seat situated in the Mumbai Suburban district and is also one of the six assembly segments of Mumbai North West Parliament seat.
In 2024, Satam and Jhadav left no stone unturned to attract voters, especially after incumbent Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar won the Mumbai North West parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by an extremely thin margin of 48 votes against Amol Kirtikar of Shiv Sena (UBT).
It must be noted that earlier, the Congress party had given the Andheri West ticket to Sachin Sawant who later expressed his displeasure over being nominated from the constituency and said that he wanted to contest from Bandra East (Vandre East). Thereafter, the grand old party replaced him with Jadhav, who won the 2009 polls from Andheri West.
While Satam is representing the ruling Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Jadhav has the backing of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), featuring Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP.
During the 2019 Assembly election in Maharashtra, the BJP stood as the single-largest party, bagging 105 out of 288 seats, while the undivided Shiv Sena got 56 seats. The Congress and NCP, meanwhile, managed to get 44 and 54 seats, respectively.
Voting for the 2024 Assembly election in Maharashtra was held on Wednesday, November 20, across all the 288 seats in the state, including Andheri West, in a single phase. The results will be announced on November 23.
