The IMD predicted a generally cloudy sky, followed by smog or dense fog at most places and very dense fog at isolated places in the morning and the possibility of one or two spells of very light rain during the evening or night.
At 8:30 am, the city recorded a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 97%. The maximum and minimum temperatures will likely be around 19 and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
According to an Indian Railways update, as many as 26 trains were running late due to reduced visibility caused by fog. Rail operations have been affected by severe weather conditions, especially dense fog, for the past few days.
Several trains, including Shram Shakti Express (12561) by 290 minutes, Bihar S Kranti (12565) by 285 minutes, Mahabodhi Express (12397) by 160 minutes, LKO NDLS AC Express (14209) by 370 minutes, are running behind schedule.
As the cold wave swept through the national capital, many flights at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were also delayed due to fog.

The Delhi Airport issued an advisory on Wednesday and warned passengers of disruption during take-off and landing in the national capital due to dense fog. The advisory on X read, “While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.”

Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi dropped to the ‘very poor’ category on Wednesday. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI in the national capital at 9 am was recorded at 356.
The Met Office predicted dense to very dense fog conditions to prevail during the night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of west Uttar Pradesh and east Uttar Pradesh till January 15.
Additionally, dense fog conditions are very likely to persist during the night or early morning hours in some parts of Uttarakhand, isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and other regions.
