Maha Kumbh Special Train List 2025: All about timings, routes and more

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 began on Monday, January 13, at the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The 45-day event is drawing millions of saints, sages, devotees and visitors from around the world. The world’s largest religious gathering will conclude on February 26, 2025.

The major bathing rituals (Shahi Snan) of the Kumbh will be performed on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya) and February 3 (Basant Panchami). The Indian Railways is currently operating around 13,000 trains, including 10,000 normal and 3,000 special trains to ensure smooth passenger travel.

Speaking with ANI, Shashikant Tripathi, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of North Central Railway, said that around 700 long-distance Mela Special Trains and around 1800 short-distance (200-300 km) trains will be operated. To provide accommodation for travellers, the IRCTC has set up a temporary ‘tent city’ in Prayagraj.

Here is a detailed list of special trains:

Western Railway: Ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2025, the Western Railway has introduced 98 special trains with a focus on passenger convenience, hygiene and the proper operation of electrical appliances. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) officials have been assigned to guide passengers from designated sites to their trains in a systematic manner.

From Jaynagar to Jhusi: The North Eastern Railway (NER) special train (05285/05286) will travel four times from Jaynagar on January 10, 24, 31, February 1 and March 1. It will stop at significant stations, which include Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Varanasi.

A series of special trains will depart from Guntur to Azamgarh and Moula Ali to Gaya on January 24, 18 and 20, among other days.

From Una to Prayagraj: Special trains between January 17 and February 23 will connect the two cities, halting at Nangal Dam, Anandpur Sahib, Roop Nagar, Morinda, Chandigarh, Ambala Cantt, Yamunanagar Jagadhri, Saharanpur, Roorkee, Najibabad, Moradabad, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow and Rae Bareli.

These trains will include 18 coaches, featuring sleepers, generals and air-conditioned three-tier coaches. The sleeper coaches cost ₹620, while AC three-tier coaches are for ₹1,670. The general ticket booking for coaches will start two hours before the train departs, reported PTI.

Ring rail route services: More than 500 trains will run on ring rail. The routes include Prayagraj-Ayodhya-Varanasi-Prayagraj, Prayagraj-Sangam Prayag-Jaunpur-Prayag-Prayagraj, Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Chitrakoot-Govindpuri and Jhansi-Govindpuri-Prayagraj-Manikpur-Chitrakoot-Jhansi.

South Central Railway: The SCR also announced a list of special train services for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. Here is a detailed list:

– Train 7701 will depart from Guntur at 23:00 on January 24 and arrive in Azamgarh at 17:15 the next day.

– Train 7702 will depart from Azamgarh at 19:45 on January 26 and arrive in Guntur by 09:00 the next day.

– Train 7707 will depart Moula Ali at 23:55 and arrive in Azamgarh by 17:15 the following day. This train will travel on two dates: January 18 and February 21.

– Train 7708 will return from Azamgarh to Moula Ali on January 20 and February 23, leaving at 19:45 and arriving at 07:30 on the second day.

– Train 7711 will depart Moula Ali for Gaya at 17:50 on January 19 and arrive at 09:00 the following morning.

– Train 7712 returns from Gaya to Moula Ali on January 21 with a similar timetable.

– Train 7719 will depart from Guntur at 14:20 on January 25 and arrive in Gaya at 09:00 the following morning.

– Train 7720 will depart Gaya at 14:15 on January 27 and arrive in Guntur at 04:00 the next day.

– Train 7721 departs Nanded for Patna at 23:00 on January 22 and arrives at 10:30 the next morning.

– Train 7722 returns from Patna to Nanded on January 24, leaving at 15:30 and arriving at 04:30.

– Train 7725 departs Kacheguda for Patna at 16:45 on January 25 and arrives at 10:30 the next morning.

– Train 7726 returns from Patna to Kacheguda on January 27, leaving at 11:30 and arriving at 07:00 the next day.
