Maha Kumbh 2025: Thousands of devotees take holy dip in Triveni Sangam on day one

Thousands of devotees took a holy dip in Triveni Sangam – a scared confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna and ‘mystical’ Saraswati on Monday, January 13 – Paush Purnima marked the beginning of the 45-day-long Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.

The state police has built a special floating police chowki to help devotees. Security has been heightened and security personnel are patrolling using boats to ensure the safety and security of devotees in this mega event. Teams of Rapid Action Force (RAF), police and Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) are present at the spot

A devotee from South Africa’s Cape Town told ANI, “It’s so beautiful. The streets are clean, the people are so friendly and happy. We practice Sanatan Dharma.”

The historic city of Prayagraj is estimated to attract over 40 crore people during Maha Kumbh from January 13 to February 26.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the Maha Kumbh presents a significant opportunity for people across India and the world to explore the spiritual and cultural heritage of the state as well as India. He urged devotees to first offer khichdi to Baba Gorakhnath on Makar Sankranti and then participate in the Mahakumbh to experience its grandeur.
