Congress promises ₹8,500 to unemployed youths if voted to power in Delhi

The Congress on Sunday, January 12, promised to give 8,500 to educated unemployed youths in Delhi for one year if it comes to power in Delhi.

The financial assistance will be provided under a scheme called the ‘Yuva Udaan Yojana’ and it is not free, AICC general secretary Sachin Pilot said at a press conference.

“We will provide financial assistance to youths who can show their skills in a company, factory or organisation. They will get money through these companies. This is not a scheme under which one will get money while sitting at home,” Pilot said.

“We will try that people are absorbed in those fields where they have received training… so that they can… improve their skill set,” he added.

On January 6, the Congress announced ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’, promising a monthly financial assistance of 2,500 for women if it is voted to power.

On January 8, the party announced ‘Jeevan Raksha Yojana’ under which it promised to provide free health insurance of up to 25 lakh.

Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5 and votes will be counted on February 8.

Speaking to India Today TV, Congress leader Sachin Pilot reiterated the party’s commitment to constructive politics and distanced himself from the blame game between AAP and BJP.

“In the last few years, both the Delhi and central governments have engaged in political bickering, ignoring the aspirations of the people,” he alleged.

“Both the Centre and Delhi government have failed to fulfil promises. Delhi has never seen this kind of politics. Delhi is witnessing politics of name-calling and people need a new alternative,” he said.

While the AAP leaders have focused their campaign promoting the work they carried out since the last ten years the party has been in power. The Union Minister and a prominent figure in the BJP, Amit Shah, made sharp remarks criticizing Delhi’s development and progress in AAP’s tenure. Shah mocked AAP’s 10-year rule by calling it ‘AapDA’ (disaster).

BJP has slung mud at key member AAP, accusing them of corruption. Shah, in his speech at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium addressing the ‘Jhuggi Basti Pradhan Sammelan,’ alleged AAP Supermo Arvind Kejrival of using public funds to refurbish the CM residence into a so-called ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ housed state-of-the-art toilets that were more expensive than most Delhi slum houses.
