Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das Dropped from Bangladesh’s 15-member squad for ICC Champions Trophy

Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das Dropped from Bangladesh’s 15-member squad for ICC Champions Trophy

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) put out the 15 member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. The board ignored Litton Das and the veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan from the squad for the tournament.

Litton Das has been a regular in the Bangladesh Cricket team over the last few years and represented Bangladesh in major ICC tournaments. Das has struggled to come back into form after starting the year on a poor note. Das was dropped from the final match of the 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at home in March 2024, after scoring two-consecutive ducks.

Since then, Das, who has played 94 ODIs and scored 2569 runs at a decent average of 30.2, has scored six single digits scores in the 15 matches he played, failing to score a half-century even once. The team opted to travel with the veteran wicket-keeper batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim over Das, who usually keeps wickets for the team.

Shakib-Al-Hasan, Bangladesh’s former captain and veteran all-rounder was snubbed from the 15 member squad traveling to Pakistan. The 37-year-old all-rounder, who retired from Tests and T20 last year, was backed by the Bangladesh team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and BCB president Farque Ahmed to be included in the CT 2025 squad as specialist batsmen after failing to pass two independent bowling actions assessments.

According to the reports by the Loughborough University, an ICC-accredited testing center in the UK, Shakib’s elbow exceeded the 15 degree mark allowed by the ICC regulations, thereby disqualifying him from bowling.

The ICC Champions Trophy champions will be played for the first time since Pakistan completely outplayed India in the 2017 finals. Team India is yet to announce their 15 member squad for the tournament and is likely to seek an extension from ICC. India will play all its matches in Dubai upon strict government orders that prevents the Indian Cricket Team from playing games in Pakistan.
