The delay was attributed to the dominance of Sukumar’s Telugu blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule, which had occupied a significant number of IMAX screens in India. The film’s re-release in the United States last December marked its 10th anniversary, but Indian audiences had to wait longer for the same experience.
Warner Bros India officially announced the re-release on Friday through its X (formerly Twitter) handle, sharing a new poster of the film.
The caption read, “The stars are aligning again! Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar returns to cinemas in India and also in IMAX on February 7. Relive the journey beyond time and space!”

The film’s re-release in the US last month was a remarkable success, becoming the ninth highest-grossing IMAX release of all time. It earned $4.5 million across 166 screens in the US and Canada, with some theatres reporting a staggering $70,000 per-screen average. The demand for tickets was so high that some were resold for up to $300.
Reflecting on the enduring popularity of Interstellar, Christopher Nolan told the Associated Press, “I was just so gratified by the response. It’s really thrilling when people respond to your work at any point. But 10 years later, to have new audiences coming and experiencing it in the way that we’d originally intended it on the big IMAX screens and, in particular, on those IMAX film prints? It’s really rewarding to see that it continues to have a life.”
A timeless sci-fi masterpiece
Interstellar is set in a dystopian future where Earth faces destruction due to famine and blight. The story follows a group of astronauts who venture through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for humanity. The film features a star-studded cast, including Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, and Timothée Chalamet.
Upon its initial release, the film received critical acclaim and won five Academy Awards in technical categories. Its visual and emotional storytelling, coupled with Hans Zimmer’s iconic score, cemented its status as a modern cinematic masterpiece.
With its return to Indian screens, audiences will once again have the chance to experience the grandeur of Interstellar as it was meant to be seen—on the immersive IMAX format.
