The veteran actor also recalled Nandy’s impact on his early career, particularly when he surprised Kher by featuring him on the cover of Filmfare and The Illustrated Weekly—magazines that Nandy had edited.
A former Rajya Sabha member of the Shiv Sena, Nandy was also an advocate for animal rights and the founder of Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC), a media company behind acclaimed films such as Sur, Kaante, Jhankaar Beats, Chameli, and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. PNC also produced the hit web series Four More Shots Please!
In addition to his filmmaking, Nandy authored around 40 books of poetry in English and translated works from Bengali, Urdu, and Punjabi. His contributions to both the arts and media earned him numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri, the EM Forster Literary Award, and several international recognitions.
Bollywood personalities also expressed their sorrow, with actor Neil Nitin Mukesh writing, “Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Mr. Pritish Nandy. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.” Ranvir Shorey also paid tribute, calling Nandy a “maverick” who “put so many talented people on the map in the movie business.”
PNC’s website described Nandy as a “magician with words” and a “true torchbearer for Incredible India.” Nandy’s lasting legacy as a journalist, filmmaker, poet, and media mogul continues to shape the Indian entertainment industry.
