Dr Manmohan Singh funeral | Mortal remains at AICC headquarters, funeral procession to being at 9.30 am

The funeral of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is being held on Saturday, December 28, with full State honours. The last rites will take place at 11.45 am at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi.

Dr Singh, died on Thursday, Deecember 26. His mortal remains are at the AICC headquarters till 9.30 am for the public and Congress workers to offer their tributes. On Friday, his mortal remains were at his residence 3, Motilal Nehru Road, New Delhi for the public to offer their tributes.

The funeral procession will begin at 9.30 am from the AICC headquarters to the cremation ground.

The funeral is scheduled to be held on Saturday as Dr Singh’s daughter, who lives in the United States, reached Delhi late on Friday night.

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday night issued a statement, saying that the Centre received a request from the Congress Party President Mallikarjun Kharge, earlier in the day, to allocate aa space for a memorial for Dr Singh.

“Immediately after the Cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah communicated to Congresss President Kharge and the family of Dr Manmohan Singh that the government will allocate space for the memorial. In the meanwhile cremation and other formalities can happen because a trust has to be formed and space has to be allocated to it,” the statement said.

On another notee, India is observing seven-day state mourning till January 1. All flags are flying half-mast and the government is not hosting any official entertainment events during this period.

Dr Singh’s family is overseeing the final arrangements, while the government is closely invovled in the process to ensure the appropriate protocols are followed for a former Prime Minister.
