Delhi Traffic Police issues advisory for Christmas celebrations: Routes affected and alternative plans

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory in anticipation of increased crowds at popular locations such as churches, malls, and markets today on Christmas, Wednesday, December 25. According to officials, comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to manage unruly behaviour during the festive celebrations across the city.

Security personnel have been stationed at various key spots, including churches, malls, and bustling marketplaces, a senior officer informed news agency PTI. “Additionally, an intensive drive against drunk driving will be conducted and will continue through the New Year,” the officer stated.

Another officer highlighted the deployment of adequate police forces near the Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Gol Dak Khana area, noting, “Although the crowd was smaller last year, we have ensured sufficient personnel this year to regulate traffic and maintain order,” PTI reported.

Traffic restrictions and diversions

In an announcement on X, the Delhi Traffic Police outlined traffic restrictions around Select Citywalk Mall in Saket to accommodate the anticipated surge of visitors.

The restrictions will begin from 2 pm on Christmas Day, ensuring smoother vehicular movement and minimal inconvenience to commuters.

Key traffic updates include:

Median Closures: All median cuts between Sheikh Sarai and Hauz Rani will remain closed.

Heavy Vehicle Ban: Heavy vehicles, including DTC and Cluster buses, will not be permitted on either side of Press Enclave Road.

Alternative Routes:

Commuters travelling from Chirag Delhi towards Qutub Minar via Press Enclave Road are advised to take the Khanpur Red Light T Point route via MB Road to Mehrauli.

Those heading from the IIT flyover to PTS and intending to use Press Enclave Road should continue on Aurobindo Marg towards Mehrauli and take the TB Hospital Road Red Light route via MB Road to Lado Sarai.

DTC and Cluster buses will not be allowed to travel towards Pushp Vihar from the MB Road/Asian Market Red Light.

Churches expecting large congregations

Several churches across Delhi are expected to host large gatherings of devotees, including the Sacred Heart Cathedral, St Thomas Church (Mandir Marg), St Martin’s Church (Delhi Cantonment), St Thomas Church (RK Puram), and St Mary’s Knanaya Church (Vasant Kunj).

Authorities have stated that traffic will be diverted in surrounding areas to ensure smooth flow and public safety.
