Sam Konstas has replaced McSweeney in the 15-man squad led by Pat Cummins. The Test, fourth of the series, gets underway on December 26.
The move comes after a string a disappointing outcomes by McSweeney in the ongoing Test series. The 25-year-old, who made his Test debut in Perth against India last month, has been dismissed on the scores of 10,0, 39, 9 and 4 in the series.
Konstas, a top-order batsman has been busy playing The Big Bash League where he represents Sydney Thunders. Earlier this week he slammed a half-century against Adelaide Strikes and thus became the youngest batter to hit a fifty in the league’s history.
Konstas has played 11 First Class matches and scored 718 runs at an average of 42.23. He also featured in the India v Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI game that was held before the Adelaide Day-Night Test in which he scored a hundred.
The five-match Test series between India and Australia stand at 1-1. India won the series opener in Perth by 295 runs. This was followed by Australia’s 10-wicket win in Adelaide. The third Test in Brisbane ended in a draw. The final match will be played in Sydney from January 3.
