The 2024 season of Formula 1 is done and dusted! While Max Verstappen clinched his fourth successive driver’s title, McLaren Mercedes won the constructor championship. It was McLaren first constructors title since 1998. The season will also be remembered for Lewis Hamilton racing for the last time for Mercedes. It was the end of the most successful driver and team partnership in F1. Constant on-track success meant that Verstappen has emerged as the highest paid F1 driver for 2024. Hamilton despite ending the season outside top-five kept earning big bucks. So who are F1’s top-10 highest earning racers for 2024 and how much did they earn? Find out below
No.10 | Pierre Gasly | Earing: $12million | Team: Alpine | Nationality: France | Age: 28 | Salary: $10M | Bonuses: $2M | Frenchman Pierre Gasly managed just one podium finish in the 2024 season when he finished third at Sao Paulo Grand Prix. No.9 | Carlos Sainz | Earing: $19million | Team: Ferrari | Nationality: Spain | Age: 30 | Salary: $10M | Bonuses: $9M | Carlos Sainz had a fairly good season with Ferrari. The Spanish drive eight podium finishes. Of those eight podium finished two were first-place finish. In his final season in the iconic red car of Ferrari, Sainz finished fifth. No.8| Sergio Pérez | Earing: $19.5 million | Team: Red Bull Racing| Nationality: Mexico | Age: 34 | Salary: $12M | Bonuses: $7.5M | Sergio Pérez started the season with a bang as he secured back-to-back second place finishes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. The Mexican driver enjoyed podium finishes in Japan and China but his season fizzled out after that. As a result Pérez finished eighth on the Drives Standings and he is eighth on this list too. No.7| Oscar Piastri | Earing: $22million | Team: McLaren | Nationality: Australian | Age: 23 | Salary: $17M | Bonuses: $5M | The Hungary and Azerbaijan Grand Prix were the highlights of Oscar Piastri’s 2024 season as he finished first in both these races. The Australian enjoyed podium finished in in Monaco, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Singapore and Qatar. In the final standing the 23-year old was fourth. McLaren is happy with Piastri as the two have agreed a contract extension that will keep them together for two more seasons. (Image: Reuters)
No.6| George Russell | Earing: $23million | Team: Mercedes | Nationality: United Kingdom | Age: 26 | Salary: $15M | Bonuses: $8M | George Russell started the season slow as he did not secure even a single podium finish in the first eight races of the season. But the British racer sped things up from there on as he then four podium finishes including a first place at the Austrian Grand Prix. With Lewis Hamilton moving on from Mercedes, Russell is now set to become the senior driver for Mercedes from next season. (Image: Reuters)
No.5| Charles Leclerc| Earing: $27million | Team: Ferrari | Nationality: Monaco | Age: 27 | Salary: $15M | Bonuses: $12M | Monaco’s racer Charles Leclerc finished third in the Drivers’ Standings. He enjoyed as many as 13 podium finished including first place finish at his home in Monaco, at Ferrari’s home in Italy and the US. No.4| Fernando Alonso | Earing: $27.5million | Team: Aston Martin | Nationality: Spain | Age: 43| Salary: $23M | Bonuses: $4.5M | Former World Champion Fernando Alonso finished ninth in the Drivers’ Standing this season. This was in sharp contrast to 2023 season when he finished fourth. Alonso’s best race of the year was in Saudi Arabia where he clinched the fifth spot. The two-time World Champion holds the record of being the first F1 driver to feature in over 400 Grand Prix races. No.3| Lando Norris | Earing: $35million Team: McLaren | Nationality: United Kingdom | Age: 25 | Salary: $12M | Bonuses: $23M | Lando Norris had a superb run in 2024 as he enjoyed 13 podium finished including a fist-place in the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi. Norris finishing first was crucial in McLaren winning its first Constructors’ title since 1998. The 25-year-old has vouched that the next season is going to be his season. (Image: Reuters)
No.2| Lewis Hamilton | Earing: $57million | Team: Mercedes | Nationality: United Kingdom | Age: 39 | Salary: $55M | Bonuses: $2M | Legendary racer Lewis Hamilton culminated his long standing partnership with Mercedes this season. The Brit finished the season at seventh place. Hamilton enjoyed the European leg of the season as most of his podium finishes came in Europe. Hamilton finished first in home Grand Prix of Great Britain and also in Belgium. There was one more podium finish for Hamilton in Las Vegas. Hamilton’s 12 years stay at Mercedes brought them together six Drivers’ titles, eight Constructors’ championships, 84 wins, 78 poles and 153 podium finishes. He will now be moving to Ferrari.
