“We had a cabinet meeting and approved a proposal to give ₹1,000 per month to every woman in Delhi. Women raise up kids, and kids are the future of this country. If we support women in this work, we will be considered lucky. Where you support women, God exists there,” Kejriwal stated.

The announcement comes ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly polls, with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party aiming to secure a third consecutive win.
Comparable schemes in other states include Maharashtra’s ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ and Madhya Pradesh’s ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’.
Kejriwal said the proposal was approved under the leadership of current Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena, calling it a result of hard work and perseverance.
“This announcement was made by me in March and we expected it to be implemented in April, but these people put me in jail for 6-7 months using a fraud case. But now it has been implemented in Delhi through our hard work and perseverance,” the former CM said in a public announcement.
Registration for the scheme starts are set to begin from Friday, although money is unlikely to get credited to a user’s bank account in the run-up to the polls. Despite initial scepticism and political mudslinging, Kejriwal emphasised the successful implementation of the initiative, responding to critics who doubted its feasibility.
Kejriwal said that the opposition BJP leaders would criticize the move as an unsustainable “revdi” (freebie), questioning where the funds will come from, but it a crucial step toward empowering women in the capital.
