In its daily weather bulletin, the IMD said the well-marked low-pressure area lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal. The associated upper-air cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels. The system is very likely to continue to move west-north westwards towards the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 24 hours. Additionally, a Western disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies lies roughly along Long. 70°E to the north of Lat. 33°N.
Rainfall:
The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during December 11-13 and December 16. It also predicted very heavy rainfall at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on December 11 and 12.
In Kerala and Mahe, heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected on December 12, 13 and 16. While heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely in south interior Karnataka on December 12 and 13. Further, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over coastal Karnataka on December 13 and in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 14.

The IMD said that a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2℃ is likely over the Northwest during the next 24 hours and no significant change thereafter. Further, a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-4℃ is likely over east India during the next 24 hours and no significant change thereafter. There will be a gradual rise in minimum temperatures of 2-3℃ likely over west India during the next four days.
Cold Wave:
The weather department said that cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on December 11, Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh during December 11-13 and Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Madhya Pradesh during December 11-14.

Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh on December 11, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during December 11 and 12 in the morning hours.
