Kapadia is nominated alongside other notable directors, including Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance).
All We Imagine As Light premiered at Cannes 2024, where it won the coveted Grand Prix. The film went on to be featured in several international film festivals before it was selected to open the 2024 MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The screening was attended by many Bollywood luminaries, such as Kabir Khan, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vishal Bhardwaj, Ramesh Sippy, and Waheeda Rehman.

The film has also been recognised as the best film of the year by Sight and Sound magazine, which included it among its top selections, alongside other films like Anora, La Chimera, Dahomey, and Hard Truths. Additional titles on the list include Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World, The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez, Perfect Days, and The Zone of Interest.
All We Imagine As Light has also been honored with Best International Film awards from the New York Film Critics Circle and the Gotham Awards, and it won the Jury Grand Prize at the 2024 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).
Released in Indian theaters on November 22, the film received positive reviews. Although it was not chosen by the Indian selection committee to represent the country in the Oscars’ Best International Feature category, many hope it will gain recognition at the 2025 Academy Awards in other categories.

In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Kapadia shared her excitement, expressing gratitude that the film industry had embraced her work. “It’s a great feeling to have my film watched by my peers, many of whom are friends I made during my time at FTII. Their support, along with that of a wonderful crew, is what made this journey possible,” she said.
Starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam, All We Imagine As Light explores themes of love, longing, and loneliness in Mumbai, focusing on the lives of two Malayali nurses, Prabha and Anu, and their friend Parvati.
The Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be streamed live in India on Lionsgate Play on January 6, starting at 6:30 am IST.
