Pune Cantonment Assembly Election | Will Sunil Kamble of BJP get re-elected?
The Pune Cantonment Assembly in Pune district is witnessing a recap of the last poll battle between sitting MLA Sunil Kamble and former MLA Ramesh Bagwe. Bagwe first secured a win from Pune Cantonment in 2009, when it was a Congress stronghold. But he faced two back-to-back defeats, first to Dilip Kamble in 2014, and then his brother, Sunil Kamble in 2019.

In 2024, Sunil Kamble is eyeing a second consecutive term from Pune Cantonment.

Bagwe has criticised the current administration over the “lack of civic amenities” in the region, saying he will bring changes and provide a better quality of life to the residents.

Meanwhile, Sunil Kamble has reportedly promised to set up a cancer hospital, besides free dispensaries, completion of the Lahuji Vastad memorial as well as economic empowerment of women in the region.

In 2019, the BJP was the single-largest party in the Maharashtra Assembly election, winning 105 of the 288 seats. The undivided Shiv Sena got 56 seats, while Congress and NCP were able to manage 44 and 54 seats, respectively.

This time, Sunil Kamble is being backed by the ruling Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Jadhav has the support of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), featuring Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP.
