Samsung announces One UI 7 public beta for Galaxy S24 series

Samsung has announced the launch of the One UI 7 beta programme, introducing a range of security measures exclusive to Galaxy devices. This update, based on Android 15, promises personal data protection while offering users greater transparency and control in an increasingly AI-driven world.

The One UI 7 beta program is now available for Galaxy S24 series devices in select countries, including India, Germany, South Korea, Poland, the UK, and the US. Users can apply to join the beta programme through the Samsung Members app.

The new One UI 7 enhances Samsung’s Knox Matrix, which provides multi-layered threat monitoring among connected devices. The Knox Matrix dashboard allows users to easily check the security status of their devices, including smartphones, TVs, and home appliances. “With One UI 7, it’s more intuitive than ever to check the security status of multiple Samsung smart devices,” Samsung stated in a press release. Devices that are up to date and secure will be marked as ‘green,’ while users will receive actionable recommendations for any devices at risk.

One significant feature is the Enhanced Data Protection recovery method, which simplifies the process of retrieving data from Samsung Cloud. Users can now transfer recovered data to new devices by verifying the lock screen credentials of their previous devices.

Additionally, the update introduces passkeys for managing digital authentication, allowing users to log into their Samsung accounts and other applications securely using their smartphone’s fingerprint sensor.

One UI 7 also expands user control through the Maximum Restrictions feature, which provides enhanced protection against cyber threats. New controls for network connections enable users to block 2G service and prevent automatic reconnections to potentially insecure Wi-Fi networks.

Samsung has also introduced new theft protection features, including Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock. An opt-in Identity Check feature will require biometric authentication for changes to critical security settings if suspicious activity is detected. “When in an unfamiliar location, biometric authentication will be required to make any changes to important security settings that could put personal information at risk,” Samsung explained.

The official release of One UI 7 is expected to begin with the upcoming Galaxy S series devices, featuring additional AI capabilities, starting in the first quarter of 2025. The update will gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices as part of Samsung’s commitment to extending its operating system upgrade policy
