Hyderabad drug case accused arrested after standoff on 10th-floor balcony in Thane

A man wanted in a drug trafficking case in Hyderabad was arrested on Monday after a dramatic standoff in Thane, Maharashtra, where he attempted to escape by clinging to the balcony grilles of a 10th-floor apartment, officials said.

The accused, whose identity has not been disclosed, had been evading arrest for seven months after a case was filed against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Hyderabad.

Acting on a tip-off, Hyderabad police, armed with an arrest warrant, tracked him to a rented flat in Mira Road with assistance from the local Kashimira police.

As the police team approached the apartment, the man attempted to evade capture by climbing onto the balcony grilles, putting his life in danger.

Senior Inspector Lalu Ture of Kashimira police described the tense situation and said, “Our team immediately began talking to him in an effort to prevent him from taking any drastic step, while we also called the fire brigade as a precautionary measure.”

The police secured the area by placing a safety net below the balcony to prevent potential harm. After multiple attempts to persuade the man to surrender, officers entered the apartment forcibly and pulled him back to safety.

Following his apprehension, the man was handed over to the Hyderabad police for further investigation and legal proceedings. No injuries were reported during the operation.
