England and Wales Cricket Board bans its contracted player from appearing in Pakistan Super League

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has banned its contracted players from appearing in Pakistan’s T20 league, the Pakistan Super League along with other T20 leagues which are organised at the same time as England’s domestic summer.

According to a report published by British newsportal Telegraph, the ban will help preserve the quality of England’s domestic cricket. The Telegraph reported in October that the cricket board will not be issuing the No Objection Certificate for the T20 leagues which overlap with the England’s domestic cricket competitions, unless a player only has a white-ball contract.

The board however has made exception for the Indian Premier League.

Next year’s Pakistan Super League is expected to commence in April. So there will be overlap between the league and England’s domestic competitions.

The rule will severely affect the earnings of the England players who are in great demand in the T20 leagues like PSL, Major League Cricket, Canada’s Global T20 league and Sri Lanka’s Premier League, while the Caribbean Premier League. A record 74 English cricketers appeared in T20 franchise tournaments this year.

Telegraph further reported that Professional Cricketers’ Association is contemplating legally challenge the ban.
