IPL 2025: All you need to know about RCB’s latest acquisition Jacob Bethell
England captain Ben Stokes has said that there might have been concerns regarding the handling of Jacob Bethell making his Test debut at No. 3 against New Zealand. Stokes is confident they can have a positive impact on the side.

Bethell has impressed in the shorter formats, given that he made his T20I and ODI debuts in September. He has five half-centuries in first-class cricket, but was never promoted above No. 4 in red-ball matches.

Stokes remarked, “You can totally understand it, but you’ve got to be true to yourself when you get given the opportunity to be able to make decisions.

“We’ve always done what we feel is right for the team. It’s gone in our favour quite a lot, so I think we do know what we’re doing. We’re not picking people just to wind people up. We do know what we’re doing.

“We do know what we look for, and when you’re in a position to make decisions you’ve got to do it by your standards and your means. Beth’s got the capability to be able to go out there, bat three and hopefully impact the game, like he has done throughout the summer in the white-ball team.”

Following an injury to wicketkeeper Jordan Cox, Ollie Pope will take the gloves and drop down the order to bat at six with Bethell coming in ahead of Joe Root.
