On Wednesday, NASA released footage featuring Williams and others discussing their holiday plans. The team members said they would partake in a specially prepared feast this time. It will include smoked turkey, Brussels sprouts as well as butternut squash and spiced apples.
“Greetings from the International Space Station. Our crew up here just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family who are down on Earth and everyone who is supporting us,” Williams said in the video message.
Later, one of her colleagues went on to share in detail how the US space agency has provided them with various food items.
“It’s going to be delicious,” the astronaut’s team remarked.
In a recent interview with NBC News, Williams talked about how the astronauts are planning to celebrate the day.
“We have a bunch of food that we’ve packed away that is Thanksgiving-ish… Some smoked turkey, some cranberry, apple cobbler, green beans and mushrooms and mashed potatoes,” she said.
Further, Williams noted that she does not see herself ‘stranded’ in space.
Williams, along with Barry ‘Butch’ Wilmore, has been in space since June 5 this year. They were initially sent for just eight days, but their mission aboard the Starliner has now been extended to eight months in space as the spacecraft was declared unfit for human travel by the US space agency.
Although Starliner came back to Earth unharmed, Williams is expecting a return onboard the SpaceX Dragon capsule in February next year.
