Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar also visited the Raj Bhavan. They, too, tendered their resignations.
The term of the Maharashtra assembly ends on November 26.
The Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP secured a massive victory, winning 230 seats in the 288-member assembly. The alliance is yet to reach a consensus on the chief ministerial face.
On new chief minister, Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar said, “Mahayuti leaders will sit together and discuss and go to Delhi and then a decision will be taken. CM Shinde has clearly said that whatever decision PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah take, it will be acceptable to him.”
