Diablo 4’s $30 Portal recolors slammed by players: “This is insulting”

Diablo 4’s microtransactions have been a hot-button issue for players since launch. A more recent addition to the store might be the last straw for some players.

Diablo 4 is in the midst of its third season and the limited-time Lunar Awakening event on top of that. Unfortunately for Blizzard, the new event has brought up some old controversy.

Players have been less than impressed with some miscommunication from the developer about which of Diablo 4’s Lunar Awakening cosmetics are paid. The recent drama caused players to have a closer look at the in-game store and they weren’t happy about what they saw.

Reddit user u/Mwatki20 called out a pack of reskins for Diablo 4’s travel portals in a post to the game’s community. They had initially caused a stir when announced but players are incredulous at the cost.

Despite u/Mwatki20 classifying the Portal pack as a $20 microtransaction, many players were quick to point out that it’s worse than that. “It’s not $20 it’s $29.99,” one user clarified. “just because they give you 1000 of their magical currency doesn’t exclude that you swiped $30.”

One player went as far as to call the pricepoint “insulting” while another pointed out that you could purchase one of the most popular games of all time for the same amount. “You can get Palworld for this price…just sayin’…”

It’s not just the price that has Diablo 4 players concerned. The Portal skins themselves are locked to particular classes. Class-specific cosmetics in the game recently had players hitting out at the Lunar Awakening event.

“I’d actually have probably bought those if they weren’t class-locked so I could switch between them from time to time. But like this? Nah,” one user wrote. “I agree. I totally would have bought it had they not been class-locked,” another replied.

Prior to this, Portal recolors had been limited to Diablo 4’s Battle Passes.

Diablo 4’s in-game store had been a major concern for players prior to the game’s release with fears that it could impact the health of the game.

Blizzard has kept their promise not to implement any ‘pay-to-win’ items but Diablo 4 fans have still had their share of issues with the content.
