AKRON, Ohio – In what might be a rarity in all of minor-league sports, the Akron RubberDucks will rename themselves after a salad dressing – specifically, White French.
The rebranding to the Akron White French will occur for one night – Friday, July 19. It’s part of the RubberDucks’ Only in Akron series.
White French dressing is one of the uniquely Akron culinary identities. It’s smooth and creamy and has hints of garlic but is not overwhelming. Restaurants that have been in the area for a long time keep it on their menus.
“From Papa Joe’s to Ken Stewart’s to the many Akronites who have mixed up their own versions at home, this salad dressing is an Akron favorite,” RubberDucks President and General Manager Jim Pfander said in a press release.
A White French salad-dressing ticket package is available. It includes a game ticket and themed adjustable hat. Cost is $40; go to fevo-enterprise.com. Akron White French merchandise is available at rubberducks.milbstore.com and in the RubberDucks team shop. Additional White French merchandise is due, the team said.
This month, the team announced it would rebrand for a game in June to the Barberton Fried Chicken and Hot Rice.
The RubberDucks’ home season begins 7:05 p.m. Friday, April 5, vs. Altoona Curve.
