The Election Commission of India (ECI) has put extensive arrangements in place to facilitate smooth voting, with 1.56 crore eligible voters expected to exercise their franchise. This includes 83.76 lakh male voters, 72.36 lakh female voters, and 1,267 third-gender voters. Additionally, 733 polling stations have been specially designated to assist persons with disabilities, ensuring an inclusive voting process.
Security and Voting Arrangements
To maintain law and order, the Election Commission has deployed 220 companies of paramilitary forces, 19,000 home guards, and 35,626 Delhi Police personnel across polling stations.
For a seamless voting experience, over 21,500 ballot units and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines have been set up. Special provisions, such as dummy and Braille ballot papers, have also been introduced to aid visually impaired voters.
High-Stakes Electoral Battle
This election is expected to be a closely contested fight between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress. The AAP, which has governed Delhi for the past two terms, is eyeing a third consecutive victory. Meanwhile, Congress is aiming to regain lost ground after failing to win a single seat in the last two elections. The BJP is looking to end its electoral drought in the capital and make a significant impact.
Exit Polls: When and Where to Watch
What Are Exit Polls?
Exit polls are surveys conducted immediately after voters leave polling stations, providing an early indication of the likely election outcome. These polls are based on direct voter responses and attempt to predict trends before the official results are announced.
However, the accuracy of exit polls depends on multiple factors—including sample size, respondent honesty, and margin of error. While they often influence political discourse and public perception, exit polls do not represent official results.
To prevent any undue influence on voters, the Election Commission has prohibited the publication of exit polls before 6:30 pm on February 5.
