
Sources indicated that the US may retaliate against China’s tariff measures on certain products based on reports from the US Trade Representative (USTR) and the US Department of Commerce. With tariffs driving up the prices of Chinese products in the American market, Indian exporters are hoping to gain a relative competitive advantage.
Sources added that during the last trade war between the US and China, India was the fourth-largest beneficiary of trade, as exports worth $51.63 billion from India in FY 2020-21 increased to $76.71 billion in FY 2021-22.
In the period from April to November in FY 2024-25, the US was India’s second-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade in goods worth $82.52 billion. India enjoyed a trade surplus of $23.26 billion, with exports amounting to $52.89 billion and imports totaling $29.63 billion. From 2021 to 2024, the US was India’s largest trading partner.
