
“For five decades, you heard slogans of poverty eradication, but now, 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty. When schemes are implemented with dedication, a sense of belonging, and deep sensitivity, this transformation happens,” PM said.
“People who are connected to the ground, who understand its realities, and dedicate their lives to it, inevitably bring about change. We did not just give empty slogans to the poor; we delivered real development. Understanding the struggles of the poor, the hardships of the common man, and the challenges of the middle class requires genuine commitment. And, sadly, I must say that some people simply do not have it,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Modi highlighted key initiatives undertaken in the last decade, including housing, sanitation, and water accessibility.
He said, “Till now, the poor people in the country have received 4 crore houses…We have made 12 crore toilets in the country and have mitigated the problems faced by women in the country,” he said.
In a statement issued earlier today, his office said, “PM Narendra Modi will be speaking in the Lok Sabha at around 5 PM this evening.”
The discussion started on Monday, with members of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emphasising the government’s achievements, while opposition MPs attempted to hold it accountable on various issues.
Rahul Gandhi had spoken on Monday, criticising the government over its “failed” Make in India policy, among other matters. The Prime Minister was expected to respond to his critics.
