Three versions of Spider-Man reunite in stunning Sinister Six fan art depicting an epic battle between the Spider-Men and their legendary Marvel villains. Plans for a Sinister Six movie at Sony Pictures have been talked about for a decade, as the project was initially supposed to spin off from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. While these plans never came to fruition, interest in Sinister Six was reignited following the success of 2018’s Venom, and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has taken steps to set up the movie. Even so, Sony’s Sinister Six hasn’t yet been officially confirmed, but Marvel Studios has already come close to developing this team for the MCU.
2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home marked the end of Tom Holland’s first MCU trilogy as Peter Parker, and pitted the wall-crawler against five villains from previous Spider-Man franchises. Spider-Man: No Way Home came close to being a Sinister Six project, and this prospect has been imagined in fan art shared by MJD Artworks, with the addition of Rhino among the other villains to complete the villainous team.
The art reunites Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland as three different versions of Spider-Man, pitting them against Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Sandman, Lizard, Electro and Rhino in a potential Sinister Six project, borrowing actors from both Sony’s franchises and the MCU.
Sony’s Sinister Six Plans Make Way More Sense With 1 Big Spider-Man Change
Sony’s Sinister Six franchise hopes are underwhelming at best, but one simple change could help elevate their burgeoning cinematic universe.
Why Marvel Studios Likely Won’t Adapt Sinister Six For The MCU
Since Sony’s Spider-Man Universe seems to be laying the groundwork for development of a Sinister Six project, it’s likely that Marvel Studios won’t develop a similar project for the MCU, even though the two studios seem to have a strong relationship nowadays. Sony still has a ways to go before the SSU is ready for the Sinister Six, as the likes of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Mysterio and Sandman – four members of the original Marvel Comics team – have yet to be introduced. However, Michael Keaton’s appearance as the Vulture in Morbius, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s upcoming debut as Kraven the Hunter will surely pave the road for the Sinister Six.
It’s unlikely that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will ever face the Sinister Six in the MCU, but after Spider-Man: No Way Home, this isn’t an issue. No Way Home pitted Holland’s Spider-Man against a close representation of the Sinister Six, so any future MCU project exploring the villainous team would bear too many similarities to the Phase 4 project. It’s more likely that Holland’s Spider-Man will embark on completely new adventures in the MCU’s future, potentially bonding with the Venom symbiote, or mentoring a young Miles Morales on how to be Spider-Man. Development of a Sinister Six movie lies with Sony, but news on the potential project has been scarce.
