Dhols, sweets and firecrackers: Mahayuti celebrates landslide victory in Maharashtra Election 2024
Celebrations began across Maharashtra and other cities on Saturday as the Mahayuti alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) registered a landslide victory in the 2024 Assembly election in Maharashtra.

As per the latest trends from the Election Commission, the Mahayuti is currently leading in 229 of the 288 seats in Maharashtra, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is ahead in just 54.

The MVA comprises Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP.

“The public has shown who is real and who follows the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray and Anand Dighe. We are those who work, we won’t abuse or level accusations. We brought several schemes like ‘Ladli Bahin’ and this is the reason why such a landslide victory has come for the first time… This is the people’s victory,” Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told PTI.

Across several cities in Maharashtra, workers of the BJP, Shinde-led Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP distributed sweets and burst firecrackers to celebrate the Mahayuti’s thumping victory.

In Washim, posters depicting BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis as the Maharashtra Chief Minister were put up by party workers.

Meanwhile, Fadnavis’ mother Sarita Fadnavis, said that her son would become the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

“Of course, he will become the CM… It is a big day as my son has become a big leader in the state. He was working hard all 24 hours,” she said.

Several Shiv Sena workers were seen bursting crackers outside Eknath Shinde’s residence in Mumbai.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Baramati where the supporters of Ajit Pawar celebrated Mahayuti’s victory by bursting crackers. The NCP workers in Mumbai were seen with dhols, dancing and celebrating outside the residence of the party chief.

Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, son of CM Eknath Shinde, was seen celebrating at his residence in Thane with party workers by distributing laddoos.

“As we expected, we have got very good numbers. I thank all the voters who stood behind Mahayuti and gave this landslide victory,” Shrikant Shinde said.
