Mahakumbh Stampede LIVE Updates: A stampede-like situation at Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh during Mauni Amavasya left multiple injured, with local reports suggesting at least 15 feared dead. PM Modi spoke to CM Yogi twice, directing immediate action. Several Akhadas cancelled their Amrit Snan, while authorities urged devotees to use designated ghats for safety.

A stampede-like situation at the Maha Kumbh’s Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj has led to multiple injuries, with local reports suggesting at least 15 feared dead on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is closely monitoring the situation, has spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath twice within an hour, directing authorities to ensure swift medical aid and crowd control measures.

The chaos unfolded as millions of devotees gathered for the Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya, considered the holiest bathing day of the Kumbh. A sudden surge in the crowd led to the collapse of barriers, triggering panic. Over 35 people have been hospitalised, while security forces continue rescue operations.

In response to the incident, several Akhadas (monastic orders) have called off their Amrit Snan, a rare move in the history of the Maha Kumbh. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged devotees to remain patient and use designated bathing ghats instead of crowding the Sangam area.

This year’s Mauni Amavasya is particularly significant due to the occurrence of Triveni Yog, a rare celestial alignment happening after 144 years, believed to enhance the spiritual merit of the holy dip. Despite the tragedy, thousands continue to arrive at the festival grounds.
