The seat has been a stronghold for the Thackeray family, with Aaditya first winning it in 2019 by a significant margin of 67,427 votes. Now, he is seeking a second consecutive term. Before Aaditya, the constituency was represented by Sunil Shinde of Shiv Sena.
This time, however, Aaditya faced a tough challenge from Milind Deora, a former Congress leader and current Rajya Sabha member, who has switched allegiance to Shiv Sena (Shinde). Deora’s decision to contest the assembly elections as a Shiv Sena nominee has raised eyebrows, as it is unusual for a sitting Rajya Sabha member to enter the fray for a state assembly seat.
As of 10.30 am, Thackerey is leading against Deora by nearly 700 votes.
