Pune Cantonment assembly election results LIVE: BJP’s Sunil Kamble eyes a return for the second consecutive term
As counting of votes is underway on November 23 for the battle between BJP’s Sunil Kamble and Congress’ Ramesh Bagwe, the former is looking to win for a second term the constituency in Maharashtra assembly elections 2024. Initial trends show that Kamble Sunil Dyandev of BJP as leading whereas Alhat Nilesh Suresh of VANBB was in the second place.

Including Kamble and Bagwe, as many as 20 candidates are in the fray from the Pune Cantonment seat.

Bagwe first bagged the Pune Cantonment seat in 2009 when it was a Congress stronghold. However, he was defeated the following two times by Dilip Kamble in 2014, and then his brother Sunil Kamble in 2019.

During the 2019 Assembly election in Maharashtra, BJP’s Kamble defeated Congress candidate Bagwe by 5,012 votes.

In the campaigning for the 2024 elections, Bagwe criticised the incumbent administration over “lack of civic amenities” in the region and promised to bring changes and help improve the quality of life to the residents.

Sunil Kamble, on the other hand, has reportedly promised to set up a cancer hospital, besides free dispensaries, completion of the Lahuji Vastad memorial as well as economic empowerment of women in the region.

This time, Kamble is backed by the ruling Mahayuti that comprises BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

In Maharashtra, polling for the 2024 Assembly election was conducted in a single phase on Wednesday, November 20, covering all 288 seats, including Pune Cantonment. The result is likely to be declared on November 23.
