Recently, several instances of extraordinary hospitality made headlines. In one such incident, one Kolluri Shiva Bhaskar, the son-in-law of Vandanapu Venkateswara Rao and his wife, was treated to a staggering 452 types of dishes at his in-laws’ home in Eluru district.
The feast included a wide variety of traditional Telugu dishes, such as Pulihora, Bobbatlu, Pesarattu, and Garijalu. The spread also featured an array of sweets, including Ariselu, Kaja, and Bandar Laddu. The feast was part of the Sankranti celebrations, and Shiva Bhaskar was left overwhelmed by the sheer variety of food and love that went into preparing the meal.
A tradition of respect
This is not an isolated incident. In another instance, Saket, the son-in-law of Majeti Satyabhaskar and Venkateswari, was served 470 types of pure vegetarian dishes during Sankranti celebrations at his in-laws’ home in Yanam near Kakinada. The menu included dishes like Sakinalu, Gavvalu, and Kudumulu, as well as a variety of chutneys and pickles. Saket was surprised and delighted by the warm welcome and the incredible feast.

A family affair
In Sangareddy district of Telangana, Ramulu and his wife, Meghana, prepared 130 types of dishes for their new son-in-law, Srikanth Rao, during Sankranti festival. The spread included popular dishes like Idlis, vadas, and dosas, as well as traditional sweets like Laddu, Jilebi, and Barfi. Their daughter, Nisha, was thrilled to see her parents go all out to make her husband feel special. The family came together to celebrate the occasion, and Srikanth Rao was treated to a meal fit for a king.
A culture of love and respect
These incidents are a testament to the culture of love and respect that pervades the Godavari districts. The people of this region believe in honoring their sons-in-law and making them feel welcome and loved. This tradition is a reflection of the values of hospitality, respect, and community that are deeply ingrained in the culture of the region.
